The Noahic Covenant is recorded in Genesis 9:1-17.
Some call it the Rainbow Covenant because YHWH specially
created the rainbow as a sign that this
Covenant is still in effect (Genesis 9:12-17). The
Rainbow is a special sign visible to ALL humanity, to "every
living creature of all flesh," as a symbol that Divine Blessings are
Universal and available to anyone who wants to
accepts them.
- The Noahic Covenant reestablishes the previous Adamic Covenant with the new world’s
population beginning with the eight members of Noah’s family.
- YHWH added one more provision, introducing
the principle of a human government that is to be responsible for
suppressing the outbreak of sin and violence. We are all responsible for keeping sin (or lawlessness) out of
our community. This is to be accomplished through the perfect blending of
community law and community mercy.
- The responsibility to populate the Earth is reaffirmed (Genesis 9:1).
- The subjection of the animal kingdom to man is reaffirmed (Genesis 9:2). This will be changed during the Tribulation. At that time God will remove the supernatural fear the animal kingdom has for man. Man will no longer be at the top of his food chain. Yet another great reason not to be here. (See Is Your Passport Stamped?)
- The consumption of herbs is reaffirmed (Genesis
1:29), but now humans are permitted to eat the flesh of
animals. They are to refrain from eating blood (Genesis
9:3, 4).
- The sacredness of human life is established. Whoever shed man’s blood, whether man or
beast, must be put to death (Genesis 9:5, 6). We didn't listen, of course. And we still don't.
- The Earth will never again be destroyed by a universal flood. God keeps all of His promises.
Over 270 different civilizations around the world tell the story of a
world flood and of a family in a boat full of animals that was saved to
replenish the Earth. i.e. The story of the Flood is as universal as the Flood was.
The Bible refers to this time as the
"days of Noah."
Satan knew of YHWH’S prophecy of a coming Messiah to
redeem YHWH’S creation and Satan's plan was to
prevent this by destroying humans and thus
the birth of the Messiah.
- Satan spun a web of lies, using
undisciplined sex and violence.
- Then he added another sinister twist.
"There
were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons
of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them . .
." (Genesis 6:1-4) This verse describes some evil angels mating with the
women of the Earth, and in doing so they corrupted the genetic DNA code of
the humans.
- The more accurate word for "giants" is Nephilim, which means fallen ones
or fallen angels.
- Satan’s plan is the corruption of humanities’ genetics perhaps to insure there would be no pure, undefiled genetic line
through which the Messiah could be born.
- The term "sons of God"
in Genesis 6 verse 2 and 4, is used five places in the Old Testament, and
each time it refers to angels (Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:1).
- The Jewish historian Josephus, in his book Antiquities of the Jews,
says, "many angels of God accompanied with women, and begot sons that
proved unjust . . ."
- This belief was also held by the early Christian
leaders of the first three hundred years.
- The phrase "and also afterward" in Genesis 6:4 shows that even after the flood,
some angels again mated with human women.
- Because of their actions, these fallen angels are now
in a holding cell called Tartaros (2 Peter 2:4); they will stay there until
the Great White Throne Judgment at the end of the Messianic Age.
Ten generations after Adam, a family descendant from the root of
Adam's son Seth, was a man called Noah, he remained righteous and just and unmixed in his genetic heritage.
When Noah was 480 year old, 120 years before the flood, YHWH told Noah to marry and have a family and to begin to build the Ark.
- Noah knew that God intended to destroy the earth with flood when Methuselah died. So Noah hadn't married or had children.
- When Noah was 500 years old God blessed him with triplet sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
The Ark was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet tall with three interior
levels and made of gopher wood.
Noah loaded into the Ark one pair of every unclean
animal, and seven pairs of every clean animal (Genesis 7:2).
